When we hear the words Pataudi Palace, we immediately think of Saif Ali Khan! But this grand property means more than that. For decades, a colonial palace existed, but now a fresh, white pillared fortress stands in the midst of 10 acres of greenland. As a part of the Neemrana Group, this non-hotel is located just 60km (one and half hours) from Delhi near Gurgaon. It was especially built when the Nawab of Pataudi Iftikhar Ali Khan aspired for the hand of the Bhopal princess Sajida Sultan.
The main palace faces fountains and a large rose garden and has 10 large suites, each with an ante room, dressing room as well as bathrooms. The suites have large colonial beds, (many from ancestral homes of the Bengal talukdars of the 19th century), almirahs from the renowned cabinet-maker Lazarus, bulky armchairs and sink-in sofas facing fireplaces. The large carpets in pastel lines evoke the 1930s. Its vast spaces and high ceilings immediately give a sense of arrival into another century and lifestyle with signed family portraits of royals and an impressive collection of memorabilia and art.
After being the home of two generations of the Nawabs of Pataudi, Iftikhar Ali Khan and Mansur Ali Khan – both cricket legends – this palace gave entry to Sharmila Tagore. And today, The Pataudi Palace is famous as the home of two generations of Bollywood stars – Soha and Saif Ali Khan.

The road leading to the palace itself is smooth and makes for a good drive. The check-in was hassle-free and on time. The room …was a huge one with 2 double beds, few sofas and even a settee laid out comfortably. This also has an attached spacious verandah overlooking an ordinary garden… The food: This was a pleasant surprise. We reached in time for the buffet lunch … Activities: They have a badminton court, carom board, a TT table and a swimming pool. There are 2 cycles too if you like. We spent the evening playing badminton. One could easily take a break from the city for even a night and would certainly go back energized
